Ok so here goes... I have an eheim wet/dry filter, a tetra-tec hang on filter, a protein skimmer, and an under gravel filter set up in my 75 gallon aquarium. Here's the problem I purchase two RIO PLUS 1100 powerheads to place on my under gravel filter. I placed the powerheads in the tank, one on each end and then connected them. They began blowuing the water around beautifully, for the first 5 minutes. When I went back in to adjust the direction I wantwed to water to flow, one by one the both stopped working as I was adjusting them. They won't work at all, and they are brand new!.. I don't understand, what did I do wrong? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Its my first time dealing with powerheads. The both stopped functionling as I adjusted the direction I wanted the water to flow in, I did nothing more.. PLEASE HELP!

That sounds really odd, the motor is self contained but there's always the possibility of something getting into them, try taking them apart maybe there's something lodged in the impeller.

Power off for your own good!

Also, if they're on a separate plug try plugging them somewhere else. Just eliminate variables until you find whats causing the malfunction.

Timeneverfreezes: thank you very much for your input. I tried plugging them in somewhere else and nothing. I have a big circuit breaker (expensive and reliable) and 8 other things are hooked up to it aand everything else is working fine, but I did try plugging them in somewhere else and nothing.. =( I don't know much about taking them apart but I guess I have nothing to lose.by taking them apart.. is it normal to take them apart? Its so odd, I really don't get it they both were working perfect and as I adjusted each of them they each went out as I moved the "duck" exit tube.. any more ideas as to what it could be? I'm so dissapointed.. =/

Unless they just died...

Taking them apart is perfectly normal and you should once in a long while to do maintenance just be careful not to break anything especially the ceramic impeller shaft.

Or you could just leave it for a day and hope they work again amazingly ive resolved a lot of problems like this lol

i just cant imagine both of them dying as i touch them.. i mean i'm sure i have that effect on certain things, but i cant imagine it happening on electrical things.. lol.. i took them out and place them in my sink. i'm hoping they'll dry off and maybe start working tomorrow.. if they dont i'll just take the apart and hope for them best... i dont even know what to look for when i take them apart.. anyhow, if you or anyone else has any more ideas i'd love to hear them.. thanks for your help.. its nice to know i can have some one to bounce ideas and problems off of..

so i couldnt sleep and i decided to take them apart... i went to the kitchen, filled up a bowl of water... took the pumps apart and saw nothing wrong.. put them back together and dipped them in the bowl of water and plugged them in one by one (even the old one i though had to be replaced).. and one by one all three of them worked.. needless to say i now need a mop and a roll of Bounty to clean up the mess i made.. but at least they work.. thanks for your helpfulness!

now i guess the question now becomes.. is 3 powerheads too much for a 75 gallon tank? hmmm.. what do you think?
