I have had 4 sailfin plecos in the past few days die on me. One is common while the other 3 are albinos. They stop eating for no reason. Even the cucumber which I regularly put in my tank is ignored. I also have a driftwood which they munch on from time to time. The first one is a good 7" which I had for 4 months from about only 4". The second one is an albino which I had for 3 months from 3". The last 2, I just purchased last week and then all died yesterday. Actually one of these 2 was bitten by one of my fishes as it was weak and lying on the bottom so it was rushed to its death. My water parameters are perfect. They just stop eating and then they wither (become so thin) slowly until they just rest on the substrate and die. The eyes have moved inwards due to thinness. I had a chlorination accident 2 weeks ago which I attributed to the first 2 dying but the last 2 are new so I am baffled. My other fish are active and have no issues, eating well. I don't see any aggression towards the plecos as they usually are attached to the glass panes. Do you know if there is any chemical that can kill them specifically so I can single it out and test it? That is my first hunch but I'm not sure.

I wonder if the water that comes out of the tap is somehow contaminated. Some places in the USA use chlorine, and switch to chloramine during certain times of the year. People use a dechlorinator that only works for chlorine, and when the water company switches to chloramine their fish die because the declorinator is ineffective. Maybe the water company in china is using different chemicals, and it's affecting the plecos?
Also, maybe the chlorination accident was also responsible for the latter two's deaths (delayed reaction).

i agree with "in2cichlids." a quarantine tank would help with some analysis. and the plecos you might be getting have a chance of not being healthy as well. when you go buy another pleco ask the owner how long they have had the pleco there. sometimes they come in with internal parasites as well. look into that. i lost 3 gold nuggets in a month. all from the same batch. all had parasites. didnt know till it was 2 late
