why are piranhas illegal and pacu aint?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Probably due to the "fear factor"

People hear there's a "maneater" in their local swimming hole...they freak and call the government to intercede.

People hear there's a fruit eater in their local swimming hole, they say; "ain't that cute".

pacus are generally vegetarians.. and do not colonize and group together and attack their victim.. I like both fish so i am not siding one over the other but the pacu has a kinder layed back personality.. that i think is most of the reason.. :D

should be the other way around because pacus get like 3+ feet and are ugly
:irked:

but piranhas eat everything and people belive fals rumors about them and are scared of them

There are supposed to be Pacu living in the lake here, most LFS are stopping selling them. I say let them populate the lake, make them a game fish. I hear there good eating, and then we could have them as pets again tooo.

They do serve pacu in some restaurants in florida.. and for the most part they are vegetarians so they probably would not hurt the population of other fish.. but they definily would have an effect eventually on the ego system.. how can they survive through the cold winters in your area??
