My 50g guppy tank is now without a heater tonight and I've been through 3 heaters today. I hate how nothing seems to go right for me lately so i can just sit back and enjoy my fish.
My stealth heater has a crack in the plastic casing below the temperature adjuster, it still works, but i no longer feel comfortable with it after noticing the crack. I have a second, different stealth that just didn't heat, I complained about it on email to marineland and they said they are sending me a new one.
Since my second heater isn't working I had to go to petsmart to get a heater today. I left with a Fluval M300 because petsmart only sells TopFin (petsmart brand I think), Marineland Stealth, and Hagen Fluval. Well On the ride home i noticed that The Fluval M300 is not fully submersible. There is a max water level. DAMN. So I turned around and took it back. Not wanting to deal with marineland poor quality control or the cheap topfin brand I went to fred meyer instead and got another Aqueon 100 watt (would have preferred more watts but I think it would handle my 50g tank)
Now it's about 6-7 hours later and i was just kicking back to watch my guppies and i noticed the Aqueon heater on the guppy tank is full of condensation on the inside. I don't want to risk a short, explosion or whatever else bad may happen from a bunch of water collecting in the heater (maybe the seal is bad) so they are just going to have to live without a heater for now. It's 72 degrees in here, I assume they'll gradually cool off over the course of the next day or two and I'll get them a new heater as soon as I can. I guess i will have to order online because all that is sold in town SUCK. I really don't need this expense and waste of time as my first day of the second quarter of my pre-med classes starts tomorrow
