Why can't fish eat the pea skins?

I'm standing here squeezing peas into the tank for my Oscar and wondering what's stopping him from eating the whole thing. Thoughts?

I'm going to feed Oscar some peas with the skins on and see what happens.

I never knew you weren't supoosed to? I don't de-shell when feeding it to my pleco.... he does it himself, I alway end up vacuuming the skins after I feed him peas.

Never heard of that. I would assume that only is for small fish who would have trouble breaking the skin. My oscars and other fish used to eat whole peas, and has no problems at all.
