I bought a stronger light for my 55 a while back. Within a week the algae started growing heavily. For the most part I kind of liked the way it was growing off of my driftwood. Well, anyway, I wiped all of the algae off of the glass with a scrub brush and the next day all of the algae in the tank died. Any suggestions? :screwy:

Wow, this is the first time i heard some one wonder why their algae disappeared... anyway, if you find out why, i'd like to know so i can get rid of mine...

On my planted tank I get algae, especially hair algae, when my lamps are about a year old and need to be replaced. This can be accounted for by the plants not getting enough light for them to use enough of the available nutrients to prevent the weaker algae from growing. If the tank isn't planted I'm not sure but the light could simply be too intense for the algae, sort of how some plants in your yard will thrive in the shade but shrivel and die in full sun.
