Why did my juvenile red tail catfish die..?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just to add... Even if he did want only a Betta for the tank... He still would need a filter. There really is no fish that can't be kept in a tank without a filter. It's nothing like rivers and whatnot which get rain to refresh the water and have tons of live plants and a natural ecosystem to balance things. Tanks need filters. Period. Lets just hope he learned that.

For your information I keep a pond WITHOUT a filter and I've got no deaths from any fish in it up to now(the fish have been in the pond for about 8 years.)

NO? I've kept a Florida Gar (juvenile)in a small tank with out a filter for about TWO months and when I was changing the water it was partially yellow(don't run away thinking I don't clean my tanks but I didn't have the time to do it those days). And for more fish that can live their entire lives WITHOUT a filter include marble (walking)catfish, Pygmy corys, gouramies, plecos, and quite interestingly.., Betta fish............Had enough?
And I just hope you learned that.

Yes I have had plenty enough. Thank you. Just because people do things doesn't mean they should. Just because someone says something online doesn't mean they did it. If someone doesn't have time to clean their tank, then they (arguably for the sake of argument) shouldn't own fish. I said tanks need filters, I know ponds don't always need filters.

And seeing as how you are 13 years old with a pond over 8 years old, you must be quite the fish keeper as you would have had to have started it all when you were about 5 years old. But I am not going to argue, especially not with a child.

I also just noticed that you were the original poster of this thread. In that case I definitely am not going to argue. Hopefully you took the advice of the people here.
