Why did my Tiger Oscar die?

Ok so my Tiger Oscar was dead when I got home from work yesterday. He was about 6 months old. The last 5 days he just stopped eating. Whenever I would come near the tank he would go nuts cause he knew it was feeding time. I was feeding him Hikari jumbo sticks. If I didn't get them in there fast enough he would try to jump out. Then he stopped eating. What could have happened?

What size tank was he in? What were the tankmates? And did you check the water parameters?

Likely disease (bacterial, fungal, viral, or parasites). Did you observe anything else? Did you try to treat with anything?

If he was relatively new and your tank was well established, I'd bet money on him being diseased.

Typically, when I get a new fish, I do an epsom salt treatment to the food for the first couple weeks. It's precautionary for IP's, and doesn't hurt anything if they have no disease. It's a win/win.
