About a week ago I received a 9" PB from George at Shark Aquarium, came in a little tattered, but seemed fine enough.I acclimated properly and put him into a 6yr. established tank (drip system tank)with ideal conditions-next day belly up!...What Gives!!

George was kind enough to send me another one...same Damn thing! ONE DAY IN...DEAD!

IN 30+ yrs. of fishkeeping,I have never had fish die this quick on me! Stumped & Pissed:nilly::cry:

I would pay to know why in the HELL this happened? Is NJ water that different?

***& I give George an A+ in customer service,he did'nt have to send me the 2nd fish...but he did!!

Just disappointed & sad that this happened with such a beautiful fish:(

I don't introduce into my Show tank normally. I introduce into my QT Tank that has perfect water, A slightly higher then needed Temp, and a bit of Salt. I treat all new arrivals as if they were sick for at least a week if form a pet store.

Now if I get a fish from my buddies established tank. Or he sends me Convict Feeders or vice versa then I'm a little more lax. BUT from a pet store, Nope not happening.

As for your issue, I don't know. What is 'Acclimated Properly"?, What were your water params, compared George? What else was in this 6yr old established tank? Pics of the Dead Fishes maybe someone will spot something you over looked?

P's are very sensitive to stress and will just shut down sometimes this is just going to happen ..I have been kepping P'bass seriously for two years now and they are much less prone to this when Fry it seems why i just don't have an answer ..Very strange tho big strong fish and just delicate in certain ways ...I have had my losses for sure:(One thing you can try the next time is add more airation regardless of what ya have and bump the temps to 83 if ya don't normally and this might help....

The first fish was added to the show tank, only because I knew George had these fish for over a year, otherwise I would have never risked it.

The second fish,as with the first, was acclimated over a period of about an hour-n-half,and 2nd fish was put into a qt with added salt & temp between 84-85.

My Water: (Drip system) PH-7.6 Nitrate-Under 20 TDS-120

I should have taken some 'DEAD' pics but they are buried in my veggie garden at this point:{{

Yes, I am curious what water chemistry is at the Shark Aquarium??

Hard to say why this happened. I guess I have just been lucky. I have had no issues getting my azuls acclimated to my tank. I aquired both of them at around ten inches. One I took on a 4 hour car ride home...acclimated great. The second at about 10in was shipped from FL to CA and also did well. But in the past I had a tem go belly up on me in transport. I have heard others talk about the sesitivity of lg tems during transport/acclimation.

What type of cichla did you lose? And sorry for your loss. Id say try again.....maybe at a smaller size.

He had them listed as Peru 'Mazan',but told me he had recently sent a pic to Oliver Lucanus, and he identified them as Nigromaculata.

I will try again-Love a challenge!!

Dont give up. Try the temp at 87 next time. And im sure you have an airstone in your acclimation tub....?
