Why do bichirs lay together?

They're normally closer than this but they do this constantly and I don't get why. Could some one explain this to me?

I would imagine so Krich. Also, they reject a catfish because he is just that..a catfish and not a polypterus.

wow, i've never seen so many ornates.

some say its cause there's not enough hiding places and they just end up hiding behind each other.. or they might actually enjoy it.

Polulys just like to pile. I have read somewhere that it is a normal behavior in the wild as well. I do have a couple polys that like to be on their own though. Always away from the group

The only one that stray for me are my Laps, but they pile on each other, just not on any other polys.
