Why?

Is it because of inbreeding?
I doubt its because they are a hybrid.
I know snakes are different than fish but hybrid snakes seem to live the same or even longer than there parents.

Because most FH breeders don't care about longevity, and pretty much only focus on certain physical attributes that are in demand by FH hobbyists. Wrap tails, short deep bodies, massive nuchal humps, etc. This requires line breeding to the extreme, which requires inbreeding, also sometimes to the extreme. The end result is increased homozgosity which increases the odds of recessive traits being expressed in the offspring.

FH are bred to be sexually mature in a short span of time.

As far as sexual maturity, FH are no different than the various CA cichlids that are a major portion of their genetic makeup, and many of the larger CA cichlids become sexually mature long before they attain their max adult size.

Right on! Off the topic but I like the fish on your avatar. Own by one of the most craziest flowerhorn hobbyist in Spore if I'm correct. Not going to release names of whom owns the fish and what happen or where is the fish at now. :)
