Why do i never hear...

"My stingray stung & killed my [insert tankmate here]. Considering a retic in my tank and i currently have 3 other pbass in there. Considering my bass are pretty expensive and the retics are only ~$70, do i need to be concerned the bass gets curious near the ray and ends up getting stung?

It happens, but is rare IMO. Retics are not a good starter ray unless well established.

Thats what i've read... problem is only have a 6x2 footprint now and i think motoros grow somewhat larger than retics correct? Also, i can pick up a retic for a fraction of what i can get a motoro pup for. Went and checked them out today, around 3-4" disc and asked if i could see them feed and they were slamming black worms. What in particular makes them a difficult ray to start with? Just getting them to start eating?

All you can do is try one. Retics are sensitive until established (eating prepared foods). Personally, I would get the ray established in another tank before introducing to the larger tank. It will be stressed and out competed for food. Captive Hystrix are a good choice.

Thanks scott, just went and picked one up this evening, about 4". Already eating black worms in the tank. Sorry for getting off topic. Glad to hear there aren't many stories of rays getting into other fish!

My big bass has been tagged a couple times once pretty bad. He lost color for well over a month but survived. He is now very careful when picking food up off the bottom so he doesn't startle the ray

glad to hear he made it, didn't think many fish could survive that given peoples reaction when they get hit

I have had more ray vs ray barbing than rays nailing fish tank mates. Very few have been fatal.

I'de be more worried about my rays eating their tank-mates tbh then actually stinging them.
