I work for my local pet store, and iwas wondering why everyone hates pet shop employees. I mean when setting up a new tank they just dont listin. im doing my best to help not just sell you stuff ,,.

Well most LFS employees are quite arrogant with the information they know. Which can be wrong sometimes. For example a fish only grows to the size of its tank.

Keep fighting the good battle. As long as you are giving good sound information, take it or not is their choice, but when you tell them that their common pleco pacu and oscar will all out grow their uncycled 10 gallon tank, should they live that long, they might start listening to you. At the LFS I worked at if a customer didn't have the right setup, or didn't have the tank properly maintained we wouldn't sell them anything but something that would fix the problem.

They get kind of a bad rep on this site. Some are very helpful. Some just want to make the sale. And some are kinda pushy with their advice. That can be real bothersome to someone that knows what they're doing.Sometimes they'll piss someone off because the customer doesn's like the employees advice no matter how good it is.

I don't recall anyone saying they "hated" pet shop employees. For the most part, they're just fun to mess with.

I still love my $100 Synodontis angelicus that I got for $3.98 because the PSE wrote the price tag for a cory cat by mistake.

LOL...I love bargains like that too.

I do know what you are saying though. A lot of customers do not even listen to what I have to say....I feel sorry for the fish more than anything...

Whenever I rotated to shore duty, I used to moonlight at an lfs (mostly for the discount). Managers used to try outbidding each other to get me to work in their store because the area clientele would flock to whichever store I decided to work at.

i know what u mean it dont happen to me tho but this 1 guy at ma lfs every 1 wants to talk to him as they know his advise will be gd i always try to go in wen its his turn in the shop, hes a great guy he has even brought me fish that will out grow the tank in the shop if i got the tank space as he knows ill will look after them :headbang2

The larger LFS around here are a joke, over priced, and have cocky employees.
The smaller ones are full of wonderful people who know their stuff and go out of their way to call me when something odd comes in.

It goes both ways.

Because everybody is an "internet fish expert" they read and regurgitate information. They think all the fish shop people's knowledge is inferior to their intense internet knowledge.

Many times some of the things you read on these boards is from guys that have never even kept the fish in question.
