i have heard lots of stories about the ray "death curl", i understand that they curl when introduced into a new envioment and stuff, but howcome it happens to some and not others? and what causes it? and possibly how to prevent it.

i am thinking about buying a ray and the thought of my ray curling scares the crap out of me.

death curl normally only happens with long term exposure to bad water conditions

its not something that just happens by putting a new ray in to a new home

The reason it is called death curl is the rays body is shutting down and it no longer has control over its disk. Chances are if the ray goes into a curl it is done. Now a ray lifting its disk in the front or even the back is not necessarilly death curl. You will no as it is an uncontrollable act the times I have seen it, it goes on for a period of time. I had a flower go into a half curl before it died. It rolled half it's disk and could only swim in a circle. Like T1 said, rays have to be neglected and severely sick to go into a curl.

Like others have said "body is shutting down". Wut ive read about it, is it's the nerves shutting down. No control. It's done

Here is a female aparicio that came in on it's death bed. I could never get her to turn around. I have another one of a male flower but will have to search memory cards.

Usually bad water conditions leading to fungus or bacteria on the bottom of the disk. having the disk on a surface irritates the disk, so the ray "curls"
