You stingray keepers seem more passionate about your animals than people in the the other sections in this forum, and I want to know what it is about stingrays that keeps you coming back. Obviously there is a little more to them than your average fish...

i like them because you don't have to add salt.=/

Rays have a grace and presence all their own. They are unique, smart, and full of personality. They command respect and attention that is well deserved.

If you ever get the chance get one! :)

unless of course you are treating them :D thou i still add salt for other purposes....

rays have a playful personality, they interact with each other, they investigate anything new put into their tank, mine have learned to splash for attention or to say "feed me".

I got into rays because I've always been interest in the shark family and rays were the only freshwater option (never wanted to get into salt), plus their movements are graceful and the variations in color and patterns are beautiful. After I got my first ray, I pretty much became obsessed with them.

I've been amazed since I was a child. We visited Seaworld, and they had one of those touch pools. Never thought it was possible to own one, until I found MFK

In addition to most responses so far, rays are less common in aquaria than most other fish. I got into rays because they were a different and unusual aquatic animal to keep. I always thought they were cool and at the time I became enthralled with rays, nobody I knew (in my relatively limited scope of aquarists) kept rays in their home aquarium systems. I barely even saw rays for sale in LFS's abroad (I used to travel alot for work and would check out the LFS's in every state/city I visited).

It was something, cool, new, fun, and greatly entertaining. Not to mention the interaction with rays became more like keeping other intelligent pets like dogs or cats. People (non-MFKers) still flip out when they discover I keep stingrays.

But thanks to MFK, I know longer feel special or unique:(....j/k:grinno:

just because i like everything about them...
