I have a 10" fire eel in my 60 community tank - 6" peacock bass, black skirt tetras, 2" calvus cichlids. Every morning, I find the eel in 1 of my 2 aquaclear 110 filter canisters hiding in the media. Any idea why it keeps going in there? There is approx a 1" gap between the waterfall from my tank inflow and the surface of the water. It still manages to find a way INTO the canister.

Because its a fire eel and thats what fire eels do....

How do I get it to stop? Is it afraid of dying in the tank? I have rocks in the tank to provide shelter and darkness. Maybe it's not dark enough?

lower the water level in your tank a few inches 2 should be plenty. and add some more hide spots. driftwood or pvc pipe preferablly. any aggression from the calvus or the PB? aggression, starvation, lack of water movement, and simply inadequete hide spots are ime why spineys will hole up in a filter. start ruleing these out and your fire should be fine in no time. Filter jumping is a bad habit that will eventually = death for your fire. if you don't figure out why he's doing it.
