I have a Ballast with 2 4' light bulbs that says 30-40watt bulbs, so I got 2 30wtt bulbs for it. The light turns off with in 2-3min and sometimes it will stay on for a while then shut off:irked:
They came with the tank so I did not pay for them.
Not sure the brand but the box is grey with red letters (Im talking about the box that has the electrical to turn on the lights).

The canopy is pretty cool as I have a 2 fans facing the same direction, so it is not a heating issue...

Is it just a junk light??

Just found the exact one on google... Visi-Lux Electronic Ballast is the brand
any info???

Hmmm... Is water getting on to the lights some how, Make sure all connections are tight.

No water as I have covers on the 4 holes from the acrylic. Lights are tight and I can feel when they slip in.
I have to tap the box for it to turn on... and thats just for a short while

sounds like theres a weak connection that comes lose as the light heats up a bit and then reconnects as it cools.. see if you can open it up find a lose wire or something... be sure to unplug it first..

An ohm/volt meter would help you find the cause.

Sounds to me like your ballast is going/has gone bad. Are you sure you have the proper tubes for that ballast, this could also be the problem.

As for overheating... I dont think there is enough time to overheat:ROFL:. It just shuts off

The lights are 40watt aquarium lights and I also tried Home Depot lights, but the same thing:irked:

I am going to try to open it today and see if there is anything loose, otherwise its probly at the end of its life:D

Thanks

sounds like a bad ballast.Id get a new ballast at lowes and fix it.

?? Far from an electrician but how would I fix it?

The ones at Lows, do they come with the extension cord or do I have to connect it with the one I got?
