My albino senegal is about 3.5 to 4 inches long. It is at least a year old. It will be a year that I have owned him on March first, and he has only grown a half an inch to an inch longer. He normally eats carnivore pellets and shrimp. I used to also feed him red worms. A couple of crickets. On a few occasions he ate a zebra danio. Only odd thing I can think of is that he sometimes has trouble swallowing foods like pellets(even when broken). So I feed him more shrimp/worms(in the past) than the other bichir

My normal bichir grew from about 3 inches to 8 inches in a third of that time. They were both raised in the same 20 L(not at the same time though). The normal was moved to a 75 gal when he reached about 6 inches+. I've tried to move the albino to the 75, but the normal attacked him right away. Since he is so small, I don't see the point in buying the albino his own bigger aquarium.

Does anyone have any idea why my albino senegal won't grow? His size doesn't bother me, but I worry that it could be health related(stunting, etc).

Mine is the same. Had it for about 6 months, hasn't grown an inch. I see it eat and perch on the wood, but just doesn't seem to grow. It's about the 3 inch mark.

Is the body of a short body more compressed. My albino just looks like a miniture senegal in body proportion. He only cost me $8(on sale from $14). Am I right in thinking that short bodies are more expensive? I'll see if I can find some short body pictures to compare

think genetics

maybe genes lol

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know that it wasn't that unusual for a bichir to be this small. I know I've seen people mention 10 inch albinos. Genetics makes sense though. It's kind of like having a coolie loach on steriods lol Would be interesting to find out how big the other albinos, at the LFS, have grown

I've had an Albino in the past that didn't seem to grow past 5" I sometimes wondered if the Albinos grow slower than the normal Senegals. I currently have 3 Albinos I recently picked up. We'll see how these guys grow.
