groups of 5+ are recommended obviously.
ive bought groups of 4 twice. i had a group of 3 red hump geos added a 3rd female and she got killed. i just bought 4 satanoperca jurapari to add to my group of 3 but im growing them out before adding them and the 4th juvie was killed. the thing about the jurapari is that they shoal together even when fighting there was plenty of places for them to stake as seperate territories but one still got killed.

the red humps were fighting over breeding territory so it makes more sense to me than the jurapari so why do groups of 4 seem to fail and not trios?

should i buy another jurapari so that theres an odd number of geos when i add them into the big tank?

should i buy 2 more so that the grow out trio doesnt thin the group any further or should i be able to count on these 3 surviving since my other trios have worked?

I am sure tank size is more important...I will always buy 5 shoaling/schooling fish over 6...simply because I like odd numbers; however, if you have a big enough tank where you're getting a larger number then the odd/even thing is kind of moot. I think the more the merrier if tank space allows. I found that adding a single fish can go south pretty quick in an established tank.

3 foot tanks but theyre juvies and have an insane amount of decor and i really couldnt tell you the turn over rate but i run allot of air in different parts of the tank. the below water video doesnt talk about these species ive already watched it for that purpose.

eventually theyll all go in my 7 foot but none are big enough yet.

the jurapari never spread out so im positive it isnt tank size. it seems to only do with hierarchy. one will color up and the others would attack it. my red humps seem to be fine in a trio now that my fourth is dead. my seperate jurapari group has had no issues and theyve been a trio the entire time(also in a 3 foot tank).

i am considering seperating them into totes and growing them out with an airline to 5in and then adding them just to prevent anymore losses.
