This kind of thing makes me sick. It's not only the reason so many fish are illegal in the hobby but also the reason so many aquatic ecosystems have been destroyed. A lot of people think about how a big fish like that could impact an ecosystem as far as outcompeting natives and such, but one thing that doesn't even cross their minds are things like viruses that can be passed that way. It's like Europeans bringing smallpox to the American natives. There could be all sorts of diseases that Malaysian fish have built up immunities to over hundreds or more years, but take an iridescent shark from a tropical fish farm and release it into your local river in Ohio and fish populations are decimated all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico through the Mississippi River system. This is also the reason frog species are going extinct in record numbers the world over. ACF's were widely used in pregnancy testing 20+ years ago. When new technology was developed, thousands were released all over the world spreading a virus they were carriers for EVERYWHERE. As cruel as it sounds, if an exotic fish can't be kept or rehomed, it's better for everyone's sake if it's just euthanized.
