Hello, I wish to introduce myself here.

Although I have made several posts on this website already, I feel that I have yet to introduce myself on this forum. I have been around fish as long as I can remember. To be honest, I am probably obsessed with fish. I eat fish for the majority of my meals when it is availible, have been fishing since I was five, and when it comes to the fish keeping hobby, I got my first tank when I was 8. It was for turtles of course, but I was never into the whole fancy goldfish thing that everybody seems to love.

Coupled with my hobby of fishing and the fact that I've lived in Thailand for 19 years of my life, the hobby started out for me pretty hardcore. When I was 12, I started keeping fish instead of turtles. First fish I kept were juvenile snakeheads (channa straita) and climbing perches and I housed them in an old water tank that was 1.5 meters in diameter and 2 meters tall. I just filled it up halfway. Although my first keep generated a lot of success in getting them to accept floating pellets (i didnt know how important this was until many years later), I also made my first huge mistake too. You see, I kept an upward of 15 fish in there, and eventually they came to a size where they all just killed each other.

So anyways through the years I've learned lessons here an there about fish keeping, and now I have myself two ponds. Although I may dislike Goldfish, I do like koi and other large-growing cyprinids, so I have one pond dedicated to them. Another one is smaller than the other, and it used to house a bunch of different kind of fish. I even had 3 silver arowana's in there at one point (then I sold them to a friend because he really wanted them). For the longest time I kept a lot of Tilapia in there (and they were breeding too in that little pond), but they were actually kept solely for food. It was totally my mom's idea anyways and since they arowanas werent there anymore I didnt feel like keeping anything predatory for a while. Well they grew to around a foot long and because there were so many in there, I ended up having a lot of Tilapia to eat for a while.

Once that was done with, the small pond was turned into a storage bin for a while until a few months ago when I decided to clean it up and start someting new with it. Well now I have 2 RTCs and 1 TSN in there. Initially I started out with one RTC and one Asian RTC, but the South American one killed the Asian one (because the ARTC was annoying the RTC so bad). So I then brought another RTC of like size (5-6 inches) and a TSN that was longer (8 inches) and now I've gotten them off live food and on frozen food.

Well thats my introduction.

I joined this site because I wanted to be able to share my knowledge of the experience I have had. I see here that a lot of people keep fish which are native to the country in which I am in, and I have A LOT of experience in keeping snakeheads (I dont keep them anymore, but I've experimented enough with them to see what kind of fish they can be kept with and what they cant be kept with. A lot of my fish have either been given away or released or died. In thailand, you are allowed to release any kind of fish into the wild as long as its not a Pleco.

Anyways, thanks and I hope to use this site to gain much more insight into this hobby too through the viewpoints, opinions, and experience of other users (well isnt that why a lot of us joined this site in the first place?).
