In most arowana videos I see it is mostly barebottom tanks, other than easy clean is there any other reason for this?

just because they always hang around the top so and are generally looking up so it doesnt really matter since theyre never going to feel/see the substrate basically

some people feel that fishes are the real attraction in the tank and dont care much about aquascaping or adding substrate..mostly its to do with cleaning.

easier to maintain and helps make the color stand out(mainly when black, blue, or white barebottom)

to my understanding in some cultures they only care about the arowana and keeping it alive in the back of businesses or in homes, they really are not the average hobbist so they acquire the arowana and a suitable home and thats it. same with some kois

I agree with the ease of maintenance. I take a siphon hose to the tank every morning and run the line directly into a net over my sump. I vac all the ugly stuff that accumulates at the bottom of the tank.

With Gravel or rocky bottom its really hard to see where the "stuff" has piled up. Makes my weekly 25% water changes more effective, by lessening the bio-load somewhat.
