I just purchased finally, a 6 inch male dovii, he is in there with a female thats about 4 inches, anyways, he is really really passive, all he does is hide up behind the filter??? this being said i just bought him today, but still id expect him to at least swim around and check out the surroundings........ the only time he is not scared is when my lights are off and no one is moving around in the room, is there something u can do to make these guys more aggressive??? or not so scared???

I have a 7" Female that is the same way, from what I hear most of them are skittish till they reach 10" or so but thats just what I read. Usually with mine if I sit really still she'll come out after a little while but then again I've had her since she was 1.5"

Thats just how some fish are I have noticed the same characteristic in some little oscars and clown knifes. Shy until they get bigger.

DAMN! how did i fall into the hype, i am so frustrated right now, i guess ill take them back, i didn't know that one of the biggest baddest cichlids, was gonna be the biggest freaking puss, sorry guys i am venting now

Penngomifan.... sent you a pm. I picked up 4 - 3" dovii's last week and threw them in with some festaes. So far they're getting along in their temperary tank and they're out and about..... not that shy since they have some tank mates (but I'm sure that might change when they start showing aggression towards other fish and have to be moved).
