my female bp has developed a small nunchal hump, it is clearly swollen and has lost color in the area where a nunchal hump would develop in other cichlids, but i thought only males developed these humps?

Its not unusual for females to develop nuchal hump on many cichlid species. Especially if there is no male present. Nuchal hump size is presumed to be a show of heirarchial position and is usually related to strength, dominance, defence or breeding displays. On some species it is affected by hormones but on other species it can be water filled tissue and change size/shape rapidly. Humans may actively select for this trait when breeding and obviously the Blood Parrot is intensively bred.

Why dont you observe the fish and post your thoughts why it has the hump?

I am more curious about allocating a scientific name for the Blood Parrot. The strain sems to have been fixed to the point of getting standard characteristics now.

That's not a Nuchal hump, that's a lady lump. Common misconception, glad I could help! :p

now were gettin somewhere.

my female bp usually spawned 2-3 times a year, just a few weeks ago i added another bp. come to find out they paired and spawned within days and i could tell the new bp was a male due to the obvious difference in the vents between the two. within the last 2 weeks this pair has spawned 3 times, but both are sterile,we wont go into that discusion. me male tries to assert himself but is smaller than my female and my female is obviously the dominant one between the two. actually she is the dominant one to the whole lower half of the tank, which includes 3 severums and a 16"ck, and 17"gibby pleco. now that she has a mate i think she finally feels dominant, hence the hump due to fishdance's info. thank you!
