Hello all. I currently have a flowerhorn that's terrified of any movement outside the tank. I lost my fader a few months ago after having him a few years. I purchased this guys around 2 months ago and he is super spooked. He does ok when I have dithers in there, giant danios. But those only last a week or so before he murders them. I've covered the back and sides of his 24 bare bottom cube and put in a rock. Now he darts around and bumps himself on it. I only drop pellets in when he's out front. After he eats, he becomes a weenie again. My previous flowerhorn was only like this for a day or do, then he became a finger chaser. What to do? Any suggestions?

Many cichlids get spooked by their reflection in a bare bottom tank. That's my guess lol.

some are just like that. My jaguars actually took a few months before they weren't scared when i walked up to the tank. I know it's not a flowerhorn, but yeah. actually the reflection in the bare bottom tank causes aggression among most species.

btw your fish is nice

Dude i know how you feel. My best looking grow out is also a weenie. Which sucks cause i can barely see his progress because he darts to the back if the filter when i get anywhere near the tank. I also had bare bottom and no decor and i recently added both to see if it made a difference and it did somewhat but i guess it just take time.

Hmm. Thanks for the replys. I'll try a thin dusting of gravel. Yesterday I put a 5 in female parrot with him and she's chasing him around now. I'm pretty bummed about this guy. Hopefully he grows some balls now that there's a chick in there. So frustrating.

Mine was like that for awhile. What's crazy though is that even though he was like that; there was one time when I was moving stuff around in the tank he actually bit me. My guy is about 10 inches now and he's a lot more comfortable and interactive.

My 2 rt and 2 blood parrots are the same way. I went and bought 15 tiger barbs and there starting to come out a little more. I was worried about them killing the tiger barbs but they are just to fast.
