Why is my kenyi so aggressive

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I named mine Fin Laden.
we got 2 different juvi mbuna to be alone in a 20G, having no knowledge of africans. was a quick lesson.
I kept them, but not in the recommended manner, just divided the tank. they fight through there safely & are well adjusted. always flaring, shaking, competing. the kenyi is excellent wet pet, small glass banger, takes pellets gently from our fingers but attacks & bites hands inside his tank relentlessly. got even more vicious to hands in large tank. I literally had to beat him off.

they need either perfect african aggression management with Lg tank size, overcrowding & hiding habitat.
or alternatively, if you're a total loser ;-) completely divide him. I didn't want a whole tank of this but it accidentally made his personality shine.

thats why I dont keep agressive mbuna. There are many haps and peacocks that have better color without all the agression. Who wants to come home to dead fish everyday or dedicate a whole tank to one agressive fish?

I say add some other aggressive mbuna like auratus, chipokae, desamoni, johanni, bumblebee. This will help keeping him in check try to get only males to so there's no females to fight over.
