Ok, I just got a new Oscar today 8" and I threw him in my 55G tank by himself... well to make a long story short I moved my filter to the side of the tank and I put my airpump on it... It vibrates and I thought that might be the reason he was doing this as he was just sitting in the flow of the water coming from the filter and then splash... I got soaked lol

I moved my filter back and hung the airpump on the wall and he stopped doing it... Its been 10, maybe 15 minutes without a splash "knock on wood" lol, but could that have been the problem?

I really need him to stop as I do not have a top on the tank ATM

Could it be hunger issues?

thats another idea I had so I threw 2 krill in there for him but he just kidna ignored them =/

Well, he's new, so he'll take a few days to calm down. He will jump again. All Oscars jump. Constantly. Maybe some less than others, but most do it frequently. Mine jumps at the covers at least three times a day, while I'm here. I'd throw a screen door on that tank if you don't have anything else. I take it this a temporary quarantine? He's already maxing out the bioload for that 55 at eight inches. You'll be doing water changes every other day if you try keeping him in there. Either way, congrats! O's are my favorite and I hope you enjoy him.

P.S. Find a bigger tank. :)

Too soon for food. Leave him alone for a day or two. Scoop out the krill.

knife- will a 75 be good for him? Im getting one soon and I can throw him in the 75 and my EBJD pair in the 55

and also, can I cover it with saran wrap (sorry if i spelt wrong) and leave a space for air to get in??? (just so if he des jump no water gets out) because last time he did it he splashed my plasma all the way across my room =/

75 is the usually recommended minimum. It's what I have at the moment. I suspect I'll eventually have to up the changes to twice weekly to keep the nitrates below ten. Honestly, for minimal/standard maintenance (meaning once weekly changes) a 90 would be a better minimum. But I is-a-poor, so I uh-gots to make do.

Go for Saran for the night. I agree. Better than a dried Oscar, if it holds. Best of luck!

The 75 g would be much better than the 55 g & a 55 is the perfect size for an EBJD pair. They splash basically because they can-an Oscar thing. And yes-they most certainly are jumpers and I'd get some sort of lid on there as soon as you can. Eggcrate will work in a pinch. Or boards maybe.

mine will wake me up in the middle of the night its very loud. My problem was my raphaels. They would run into him and poke him and scare the crap out of me and himself when he thrashes around and gravel goes flying!
