hi there, anyone knows why my paroon shark is not dark black but silverish in colour. my water parameters are pH 7.4, ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 20ppm.
Could be because it's probably not a paroon shark but an Iridesent Shark which is silver in color. They are both pretty much the same species only one is darker and the other is not.
The easiest way to settle what fish it is. Is with a pic if you can upload one. Paroons have very pointed dorsal fins. But from what I have seen both fish turn black. My ID is pretty dark but he is 6-7" and my baby paroons have no black at all yet but are only about 2". Lighting I don't think would affect color at all. I would think what you feed it would be more important. And I have seen ID's that were 4" that we're silver still I would worry till it gets a little older it'll come in. On a side note thou lights seem to stress them out like I said thou it won't effect color.
The main character, it depends of contrast of the bottom according cryptic nature of him, dark bottom or clear bottom. Also, the degree of stress. Everlance, you post any pic of him. You should take a picture with shuffer as fast as possible.
The trick I did with the light is move it all the way forward towards the front. This way there's always shade in the back. My ID is never stressed about lights anymore. During feeding, I have to move the light back to open the cover but that's not an issue.
mine is definately a paroon and not an id. it has a wider body and definately sharp pointed dorsal fin.
@hondacrx2 i feed it with sinking pellets (a mixture of tropical weisi gran & hikari sinking carnivore pellet)
@zapatower what you mean is that i should get a dark substrate as gravel or remove the gravel? or a dark background? fyi the enviroment around the outside of my tank is kinda bright in colour( like light brown curtains, plain white table and my walls are bright yellow)
If he is eating pellets he is getting the nutrition he needs. I would say wait till he is 6" of he isn't black by then. Then I would be concerned. I have had ID's before but not paroons. Like I said my paroons are still tiny babies.
