odd question....

i havnt cleaned the filter in over a week (usually an every other day process) its been full of algae and moss and brown water for almost the whole summer, then it cools off for two days and its crystal clear, no moss, algea is just a fine layer on the sides, and the fish freak out 'cause i can see then perfectly.

Is it possible your not geting the direct sunlight you were when the days were hotter?

The algae dies in colder weather with little light ,and the debris sinks. happens alot in the uk in winter.

Happens in the intracoastal here in florida. The water is green in spring and summer because of the algae from the heat and when the water gets cool it is crystal clear.

its the cool water thats doing it, my pond in the summer was full of algea all the time, exept for when i was adding water, the water going in was a bit cooler then the pond water and you could watch the algea sink to the bottem and the water clear up in 30 minutes.

well...its got a brown tinge to it now, Gunna clean it (the pond) this week. when i say cleaning the filter i mean just cleaning the top layer or eplacing it. i leave the charcoal media and the Bottom coarser sheet of floss (whatever you call it).
