Well, today I thought I had finally figured out my stocking issues. I traded in my oscar for some store credit, and came home thinking i had everything figured out. I put my firemouth and 2 senegals from the 45 in to the 75, and almost instantly the somewhat larger sen from the 75 started going after the new ones, there's close to a 2" size difference but i had never heard of sens being aggressive towards each other. So i took him out but now i've gotta figure out what to do with him if he continues acting that way even after me moving stuff around and re-introducing him.

Another fun part, I had gone to a LFS back home and picked up an angelfish and a baby ornate as i'd always wanted to grow one out, the angel is doing great with the remaining stock in the 45, and i was gonna add the baby ornate in there temporarily too, but now i'm afraid he and my baby del will fight. Ahh, the issues brought about by a single ornery sen.

Any suggestions on what to do with the larger senegal other than removing him and moving the territory around? any input would be appreciated, i'd rather have the 2 other sens in the larger tank at this point so putting them back for now isn't really the first choice, but it's always an option i suppose. Will put up pics of the new fish soon

they might just be fighting to see whos to dog er...i mean top polypterus, just try it for a couple hours and see what happens just keep an eye on them.

I would remove the larger fish. As you said, redecorate, let the smaller guys establish, learn the "lay of the land" with all the hiding spots, then finally reintroduce the larger sen. It's just temporary until the smaller guys can establish themselves. Adding more hiding places is always a good option too.

If you had a 75 all to yourself, then someone added two more, smaller fish to your territory, wouldn't you defend it too?

true, i just wanted to make sure no injures occur, though they're tough scaled fish and i dont think they can do much real damage to each other... at one point i was toying with the idea of moving my little BAT and cories to the 45 and putting the 6" sen in a 10 gallon for a few months while they caught up.... hahaha - here's to hoping the ornate and del get along and the sens get over themselves :P

well.. i moved everything around, put him back in, and first thing.. BICHIR PILE :D

yep, it appears that way, a couple little nips but overall its fine

TYpical Bichir insanity... lol Just keep an eye on your Ornate.. mine was about 1/2 the size of my Sens when I added him/her to their tank. Even then the Ornate bossed everyone around but the stubborn tire track eel. Now that the Ornate is bigger he goes where he wants when he wants... Pretty soon gonna need to move him. Ornates are also well known for their attitude.

I was going to suggest feeding your big guy. Thats what I did, a few curiouse pokes of the nose later everyone was settled in.

yeah i went ahead and fed everyone and that did help as well, still takes a nip at one and not the other (thinking the big one might be a female and the ones i just added males, could be interesting) - so far its all good, definitely keeping a close eye on the ornate but so far he really seems to have just kinda taken a small area for himself and not bother anybody, im sure that will end up changing drastically but we'll see haha.
