Why is there no arowanas in FL?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why do states ban some fish? Because irresponsible people release them into the wild where they upset the native fish population.

I went fishing the other day in MKE, WI and caught an Albino Oscar in a pond... Wish I shoulda took pictures...but ever since I dropped my Iphone in the water, I was never ever able to use my youtube page the same way...anyhow back to your question.....for reasons like what I just mentioned... People would release certain type of fishes they dont want into streams, rivers, and ponds....and if they adapt to the climate... they can surely become invasive....IE Asian Carps.. Common Plecos, etc....

If it is because of the threat of becoming an invasive species why would they allow the most common species of aro and not the rare ones that people are going to be far less likely to want to throw away?

The logic does seem flawed, unless they have done studys and determined that the silver can't survive a Florida winter and the others possibly could.

I have see. Silvers down south past Miami. Living in ponds at apartment complexes same pbass and large mouth bass. Wish I would have known I would have brough rod reel and a Rubbermaid container.

Possibly, but I'd find that pretty hard to believe given the similar habitat/range of blacks and silvers, and that jardini and leichardti come from further south of the equator. I think its more likely bureaucratic ignorance, at least if they're cut from the same cloth as those who make the rules regarding importing fish here....
