I posted this before but was unable to post on that thread.I put a larger female with this fish and thought it was stress or wounds. Looking back at the pictures before and after I interduced the female ,which I took out pretty quick.looks like the fish is slowly changing color ,starting with the tail fin getting white edges and then kinda getting white patches and fins getting some black ,Is this stress or is something else going on? Tthe fin damage did come from the female fish.

he looks like he might fade but i had a fish look like that and not fade.

looks stressed

I really dont think it is stress , his conditions are good, he swims all the time, he even let me touch him ,I can put my hand it the tank and he come right up to me.some of these pictures are with the camra under the water like this one ,it take s five second to focus and snap ,The flash doesn't even run him off ,he let me take his picture. this shot it is not on zoom it is right in his face.

A flowerhorn dosen't have to be a fader to develop the black spots of a fader... the black spots enumerate -1 in social rank, its like this in many species of cichlids so this would be my guess. Remember fish use colour as social signal so you'll get more answers sitting and watching their interaction than from asking a forum full of people who aren't fish. If hes colouring down like that though in response to a female I would guess that the female is either bigger or stronger than him?

Is this correct?

The color did increase with the larger female but it started before her and remained after the female was removed. Now I but a smaller mayan female in with him ,that he surly dominates and he still has the the color changing but I am not ruling out it could be an expression of mood .
