Hi all,

My GT has had a problem with ich for the past 4-5 weeks, and while it isn't at levels nearly as bad as some of the photos I've seen on these forums, it isn't getting one bit better. Recently, he has gotten a very cloudy eye (only one, not both), to the point where he has apparent difficulty seeing out of that eye (i.e. when I feed him I have to put the pellets in front of his 'good' eye). I have had the salt way way up, taking all of the advice you all have helpfully presented here, the temperature is at a steady 86, which is as far as my heater seems to go at the moment. I have even added the suggested dose of malachite green to the water. I have a senegal bichir and some giant danios in the tank as well, none of which seem to be responding adversely to the treatments and none of which have any signs of ich either.

Do you guys have any suggestions? This GT is a beauty and he's still a youngin' at ~4 inches. I don't wanna give up on this guy but at the same time the malachite green isn't the cheapest thing in the world and I want to see if any of you with more experience could give me a pointer or two.

Thanks all,

BK

Here are some pictures. I know the quality of the photos aren't great but I have a really old camera and it's all I've got for the time being...the "ich" is hard to see but there is some visible (the white blur) on his anal fin, as well as some less visible stuff along his dorsal fin. Anyway, I got a photo of both eyes, and you can definitely tell the difference.

Wow, that eye is really messed up!

I really can't see the ich with those pics.

Can you give me your water parameters, tank size, filtration, all of your tank inhabitants, and how long the tank has been running?

Can you also give us some details on exactly what you've done to treat the ich? Describe your treatment plan for both the salt treatment and the malachite green:

-When did you add the salt (tell us each time, not just the first time), how much did you add each time, and exactly how long did you do the salt/heat treatment. What heater and thermometer are you using?

-When did you add the malachite green, how much did you add, and what brand did you use? How long did you treat with malachite green?

sorry for you loss bro i have had my fair share of fish that just dont get better after buying them from a crappy store i had bought a 6 inch JD that was stuffed into an over crowded 20 gallon with a 7in butterkofi and a few electric catfish it was so sad i got him home and realized that he had a parasite in his stomach it was traumatic for him im sure but i had to preform surgery and actually pulled the worm out he recovered fantastically but i definitely let the store know about it and all the other hobbyists in the area
