i have my arowana now for one month and it is doing great in term of overall body shape and food appetite ... but i noticed that it get scared very much and start to move like crazy when some one suddenly come close to the tank .. i am very careful when i feed my fish and keep telling my wife to mind her movements when she pass by :D` , but today when i was feeding them she did some sudden movements and the arowana started to act like mad .. even lost one of the scale becasue of that
is there a reason behind that ? and will it get used to the movements arround by time ... and what treatment should i give for the lost scale ?

Hi.. Don't do anythin about the scale.. it will grow back in no time.. clean filtered temp controlled water will make it grow faster.. you've answered your own question.. give the aro its own time.. it is freaked out by the sudden movements and your wife(no offence).. ask if she tapped the aquarium or somethin.. my aros (fish in general) i believe have the ability to differentiate between people.. they know me cos i give them food and rush up when i go near the pond and while some other people come they move to the far end.. same way.. so just ask your wife to give the fish a wide berth..for sometime.. dont go near the tank.. the aro will get used to her also in sometime.. no chemicals nothin.. just let the aro calm down.. if you switch off the lights at night.. just leave a small night lamp around the tank.. cheers. all the best..

Not only do the arowana recognize people they also get used to familiar movements. I can have strangers around my tank, as long as the focus is on the tank the aro are fine. If anyone, even myself just walk across the room, it tends to spook them. Any time I am around the tank, cleaning, maintenance, etc. I make it a point to interact with the aro which keeps them calm.

Main things to avoid is swift sudden movements and wear bright colored, red, orange or yellow clothing. Other things that can help are floating plants and elevating the tank to where the arowana are at eye level with you.

My Aro is one of the most well behaved fish I have ever seen, very friendly too.

a nite light will help to keep your aro calm. i have found that all my aros are much calmer if they have a nite light of some kind. i have my tank in the living room and there is a couch in front of it, so they see more action then a porno cameraman.:grinno: they are very relaxed, till the power goes out then they freak out and you lose one out the back of your tank.

we had this discussions somewhere. It was a different scenario, when friends & relatives visited with their kids. The kids tend to thump on the monster tanks that we have back home. At the rate sound travel it should probably sound like a rock concert in a sound proof tank.

controversal point was to keep off the kids (barricade) Vs aro to climatize to the knocking.

Back to the topic aro tends to be a bit skittish when they're full. For me will try to keep them partially full, that'll way when walking near the tank they'll swim towards me. Cheers

it i ok when it come to the people u live with .. embarrassing when it come to strangers and relatives with kids:nilly:

The first thing i tell people.. family or strangers or friends is don't go too close to the tank or tap the glass.. its so irritating actually when i see salespeople at LFSs doing it to show unwary customers the fish is active!!!
