I learned a decade or so ago to add black substrate and a black background to my piranhas to bring out their colors. With the lights and with a bright tank with a light background could be causing your fish to stress or fade.

Check to make sure nothing is leaking electricity into the tank. Take a razor and cut your cutical just a bit and dip your hand in the tank. Sounds crazy but I do it if my fish are showing signs of stress and can't figure out why. Had to do it too my Silk's tank last week and found my titanium heater leaking current. You won't feel anything unless you have a cut on you. I have been doing it for years that way. The wife thinks I'm crazy but it really does work and its like a 9 volt on your tounge. Power heads are famous for leaking current

Thx for your replies guys. I'll watch him closely and see what might happen in the next several day.

It is a possibility he has started fading.

I've never seen it b4, if he's fading. How long does it take until he will be back to normal color?
Thx for your reply

Fading is basically changing to a goldenbase fish...it could take a while. I have a KKP that has been fading for almost 6 months. The time varies fish to fish.
