ok....... why wasnt the house of sam a clear as i thought it should be ??
i originally setup the tank with the filter inputs on the left and the returns on the right right. I am filtering at 5x ( 50000 gph). Past experience indicated that this turnover would keep the tanl clear but maybe not perfect.
After watching the tank for sometime i could see some areas where the flow was actually flowing back to filter returns ........

The solution was to change the flow pattern to a clockwise rotation ( north of the equator)......i adjusted the returns to create a clockwise current in the tank........big improvement...water cleared up faster after feeding and was clearer in general. The final improvement was to add a couple of power heads to increase the flow and i am quite happy with the results.
