I was wondering why I haven't come accross any one who has tiled there plywood tank to make it water proof. Instead of using tile grout, use silicone... Thus making the water proofing flexable enough that it won't have/get micro fractures like epoxy finishes, when the tank is moved. I was thinking of getting 1/6" glass, then cut it into 4"x4" "tiles" or maybe even porceline tiles and then lining/tiling the inside of my soon to be "experiment" plywood tank. I seriously doubt that 2' of water pressure will fracture a 4"x4" piece of glass that is supported by a plywood backing... Sure I'll use a S%$T load of silicone, but can any one think of a reason this won't work?

I'm just throwing the idea out there.

Nope, no reason why it won't work...If you plywood tank is strong enough. Tiles will add alot of weight to the tank. You still have to seal the tank in case of any leaks and then make sure the the silicone will adhese to the sealer on the plywood.

If you use glass, you could have someone paint the reverse side with a scene or plants. and grout them in with silicone.

For ceramic tiles, you could find a local artist to paint and fire the tiles to bake on the design. Take care to check the paint for toxicity. Make sure they use only food grade paints.

Either could be beautiful.

Go for it and remember take and send pics.

Good Luck,

I've seen tiling done more for ponds and ground level stuff. Tiling something above the floor would add a significant amount of weight, obviously depending on the size of the tank to be built.
