just like the title says, I mean no offense to uaru keepers but besides that big black blotch in the center body the color isnt that impressive. r they just rare? saw a grey/blue 2" uaru for $19.99
I agree, I love them but they are pricey. Here in iowa i have only seen a few and they are 29.99 a piece at least. The owner of my lfs got a few and told me he ordered them for me, and at 30 a piece i declined. just couldnt justify
I just bought a pair (both about 5") for $60.00. There's something about Uaru I love. The adult coloration, the reddish eyes, the black eyebrow splotch, the personality. They're like a mix of big S.A.'s and Discus. Totally worth the price-tag to me.
Because there's not many fish that attain that size that stay fairly harmless. That's just a guess I have never kept them. But I want to because there awsome. Man so many fish so little space.
Your talking two completely different price ranges with Uaru. I didn't see you mention which species your asking about
Uaru Amphiacanthoides can be pricey (I paid $29 at 4") but they are great fish and honestly not all too common for most LFS to carry so they command a higher price tag. $10-$40 range.
Uaru Fernandezyepezi Are rediculous in price. A friend of mine just paid $800 for x5 sub-adults. They are rare, sensitive, don't ship well, and are "harder" to keep than a lot of other SA cichlids because they do not tolerate nuetral to high PH/hardness and from what I have read demand pristine water. It's easy math on why they are expensive to import and in turn are expensive to attain. (these are on my "before I die" list BTW, I will have them )
