It makes no sence that channa bleheri and other dwarf snakeheads are illegal in the states and canada because they are not able to sustain life in colder climates...and they really can't do that much damage, due to the fact that they grow to the same size as the other aquatic predators who are native to these two countries....These dumb asses that create laws should do there research.

Size does not matter, a small snakehead is still capabile of hurting native populations, they all start out as fry remember. For example....bluegill are smaller then largemouth bass, and the bass feed on the bluegill. However, ponds with a large population of bluegill will have smaller bass populations because the bluegill will feed on smaller bass and bass fry.

The dwarf ones bread more readily and become sexually mature much quicker so the way your government see it you could end up with loads of little snake heads and as stated above if they loosen up there grip on small ones where can it stop I say just have a sensible licence system but its ok for me to say that I can go a get a red tomorrow for £5 in the uk

Some people could make mistakes concerning what snakehead is what at a young age as well. There would be risk of confusion about species.

they've done the research i assure you... have you done any?

I can see both sides of the debate. I see this as the Govt. playing it safe and just saying all snakeheads are banned. I'm sure that they are aware of the dwarf populations, but would rather not deal with the problems that could come up if some snakeheads slipped through the cracks.

Another problem would be juvenile snakeheads can be a :swear: to work out what they are so could be marked up as a dwarf but happens to be a big boy the amount of posts on here for “can you name this snakehead I bought it last night” sums it up. In England its called “Belt and Braces” meaning you got a belt and a set of braces on your trousers they are not going to fall down hens ban them all.

ahh essex wisdom at its finest!... id call it "having your snake and eat it"

Gambusia, a tiny guppy like fish has been introduced worldwide for mosquito control, they have consistently out competedand replaced the native minnows. A swarm of 6" snakeheads would be a real detriment to nesting bluegill or a population of steel shiners.

Yes...I have done alot actually, and if you knew anything about channa bleheri in particular, you would understand that channa bleheri rarely eat live feeders, they tire very easy and learn to tolerate the fish they previously wanted for food...Also channa bleheri are one of the hardest if not the hardest channa to survive to adult hood, most of the time they die before reach 4 inchs.
