Just saw this auction on Aquabid for a "12'' Platinum Polypterus Cuvier Bicher": http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fw&1330740998
As you can see, the buy it now is $1750. This strikes me as a little bonkers for a 12'' bichir, regardless of rarity.
Is it his claim that the eyes are normal color and not pink that's supposed to add value? I've noticed people paying a lot more for plecos with specific eye colors, so that was sort of all I could go on.
I mean, based on the picture, it'd be impossible to tell if a) that's even true and b) if it's not just a much more yellowish fish that's been hit with a powerful flash or photoshop.
Any thoughts/opinions on this?
I should note that I'm not even vaguely considering buying this--I can't afford it and wouldn't if I could. But I can't help but be intrigued by what people claim are the rarest things in the hobby.
