I want my severum to get alog with my true parrot. At first my green severum beat the parrot up when he was the new guy. So I took the severum out for a week. Then added her back in and now the parrot beats the severum up. So I gave up and they are in seperate tanks for good now.

I think maybe it has to do with them being the same size booth kind of the Same color. They are simular but differant.

The 4" parrot gets along great with my EBJD 3" and red severum 2".

Any idea why some fish just seem to hate eachother?

It is true, some fish just hate each other.

I have noticed that Buttikofferi and Jaguar Cichlids never get along. I have had many over the years, and they never get along.
Have two right now in a 125gal, the Jag hates the Butti with a fierce passion.

Sometimes, if fish are the same size, they will battle. Or if they are the same color or pattern. I think there is reason to suggest some fish may actually hold grudges, and remember events IMO.

They must have some sort of long term memory. Think about when you pull out the net. Them bastards know you are gonna come after them in a few moments, and go into hiding. Two fish may have been fighting a few moments ago. However, as soon as you stick that net in, they are best friends, and work together to evade you.

yes thats another thing. I was thinking maybe they do remember eachother.

no other people have any ideas why some fish just cant get along but are fine with other fish?

Did you try rearranging the decorations before adding the fish? It sounds to me like it is just a territorial issue and could easily be resolved, though I could be wrong.

fish of the same size and similar markings/coloring will fight each other untill one is dominant. i have noticed this behavior to its like they recognize the other as a threat, not sure why this happens but i guess in nature they would just give each other space. this is not an option in a small tank and some fish require more space then others.

You ever met somebody that just rubbed you the wrong way for no apparent reason? I'm sure that this can also occur amongst fish for a variety of reasons. The main reason, I would think, is competition for a single spot in the pecking order. When 2 fish are too evenly matched there tends to be trouble until one comes out on top. This scenario in exhaserbated when the two fish in question are of the same species or look alike.

Yes I moved Everything around added new plants. I Then added the severum back in as the water was filling after a 80% wc.

They are fighting to be top fish that's for sure. But it does not seem like one will back down. Just when I think they have worked it out one starts a fight.

I think some fish just can't get along. Maybe I will try again once one gets a little bigger then the other.

In my community tank My angelfish is real nasty, we bought a panchax ( female ) really nice fish 1 week later the angel had killed it wasnt the nicest of things to see when your about to feed your fish. We also bought 3 keyhole cichlids and at first the only thing showing his dominance was the red tail however I started to notice how the angel fish would bully them, he ended up killing 2 and still bullies the one now. This is the only angel fish ive had to act like this?
