Hi, This is my first post on here after reading a whole bunch but never posting. I have a mosaic gar (boulengerella maculata) and a tiger musky that love to eat rosy red minnows. I feel like these are the cleanest feeder fish, so this was alright for a while but now they eat so many per day that it gets expensive. I also tried crappie minnows but they seem dirty for the fish. I have got some feeder goldfish from my lfs twice now but they never seem interested in eating these. WHY!!?> Thanks in advance!

goldfish are bad feeders your fish are probablly smart enough not to eat eat them...na its probably the color or something

weird i was just going to post the same thing.

uh anyways, might want to try different food types/feeders, your fish may suffer a number of conditions if fed too many rosies... they contain enzymes that break down vitamin b1, can cause a ton of different deficiencies and problems.

Try feeding them market shrimp or fish fillets from the supermarket...

I had a Yellow Tail Barracuda for a while that only would eat Platies and no other feeder fish.

As mentioned, You should spend some effort on getting them off feeders anyways.

ya i dont really want to get them off feeders..... just because its really cool to watch them eat.... and they really never seem interested in other other types of food.... how do you get them to try and eat other stuff anyway?

Maybe try a guppy or platy and see if he likes those. Guppies or platies are a safer and easier fish to use. Breeding them your self guarantees there healthy.

getting your fish on non live foods will be better in the long run for them and might cost you less then picking up feeders every week or so get a lb of raw market shrimp and start mixing it in along with the feeders or let them go for a little while without food and they might take whatever you throw in thier i had some cichlids that took some hot dogs and raw bacon when i was really low on $$ im not saying give them that but its better then starving in extrem cases lol
