Hi,

I've had a pair of johannis for a while now. They bred for the first time about 4 months ago. I've still got most of the fry (larger now though). However, I can't seem to get them to breed again! I do regular water changes, and have even tried to feed them a little bit of bloodworm, as a one off, to try and encourage them to do so!

any ideas why they won't?

Thanks

Yeh, your probably right. Will just stick to vege food.
As for the tank, it's 55G (48" long), temp at around 80F, running an Aqua One for filtration (not the best, but seems to do the trick, so long as I keep up regular water changes). Not sure on the exact pH but it's hard for sure - I think out of the tap its around 7.9, but I add some sodium bicarbonate to raise the pH when I do water changes!

You'll have more luck adding more females. Mbunas breed better with more females per male rather than in pairs. Are there other fish in the tank? Perhaps they are being pestered by their tankmates.

Yeh, I've been trying to find some more females for while, but am struggling. There are plenty of other fish, but these are the most aggressive. I've got some acei, labs, blue zebras, greshaki, pleco and some fry.......
