I have a male and female dempsey in a 55 tank. for the past week, the male has been developing dark colors and keeps shaking and twitching. the female also develops nice colors. Ive also been told that their sexual organs should be out. Well, now that i was told there is something coming out very little out of the females butt and something else out of the males butt.

Does it take more time? I lowered the temp from a few days ago because it was 84 and i thought the fish might get so hot they would melt. I lowered it to 79.

I also began feeding them shrimp and added in two flat rocks for them to breed on... SO why wont they breed? Does it just take time?

Thanks

yh you will have to take your time a better way is to feed live food twice aday and pellets once so 3 feedings a day, a good live food to trigger if earthworms, cut they up into small enough pieces because they can choke on them and raise temp tp 80-82 and water changes.
also what size are they as they normaly become mature a 4-5inches

Well from sight, both are about 4 inches. Last time i measured my male it was 4 inches 1 mnth ago.

do what he said and wait a couple of weeks. they should do it soon.

JD's do not reach sexual maturity until their second year. If they are old enough, decorate the tank like the back seat of a car.

:iagree: with the 2 year theory, and i don't think its nessecary to cut up worms for fish mine will stuff three to four whole worms in it's mouth at a time

Breeding fish isnt like mixing up a daquiri sometimes you got to be a little patient
