My Angels are on their 5th or 6th batch of eggs and they seem to do the same thing every time; do an excellent job of defending and fanning the eggs but never pick off any eggs that start to develop fungus this takes over all the eggs and they end up eating them. I am starting to wonder if they are not being fertilized by the male properly but they have had a successful batch before the 2nd time they spawned. Can anyone shed some light on this or are my fish just not getting the idea?

dont know anything bout angels. At first i thought maybe u had 2 females but then i read that they spawn before. How is the water parameters? Did you pull any other angel out of the tank? if so maybe u grabed the male that was fert the eggs. other then that i have no idea why. by now they should have it right at least you would thank so. sorry i couldnt be any help.

There was another angel in but he was was killed sometime between the first and second spawn the male is super aggressive and since he paired up he didn't want to tolerate any other angel. Nitrates are below 5ppm and pH is around 7 a little below. I can clearly tell who is the male and the female especially around breeding time when the female drops her tube and the male drops his. But even if there was a problem whether it be two females or a water problem is it normal for them not to remove fungused eggs?

Domesticated lines of angels seem to have "forgotten" how to properly parent their eggs. Many believe it is due to generation after generation of people automatically pulling and artificially incubating the eggs. You may want to set up a separate ten gallon with a couple bubble stones for water circulation, and some methylene blue to prevent spread of fungus to fertilized eggs. That's how I would do it if I didn't have cory fry in my incubation 10 gallon tank. My angels have been laying eggs and eating them every week or two for the past 6 months. Recently they haven't even given them a chance to start to fungus, and eat them less than 24 hours after laying them.

Angels, as with discus, sometimes need several tries to "get it right". There are meds you can buy to prevent the fungus. But mainly, don't get discouraged by the unhatched clutch. Eventually they should get it right. Sometimes it can take several attempts. So don't count your fishes before they hatch.....
