hi people,
i was away for the weekend, and my mum called me this morning saying that all my fish had died except for 2 plecs, talking catfish and my bichir.
water i got tested as soon as id driven the 2 hours to get home at silly o'clock this morning and that was fine, temperature was fine, no bacteria probs as iv been using salt and my bichir was still alive!
so does anyone have any ideas as to what could have done it?
i had a fluval 350 and just a small air pump, both working normally as far as i can see.

thanks

chloe

What type fish died? You say water was fine, but what parameters did you test? Usually with alot of dead fish you'll see an ammonia spike. How long was your weekend, how long were dead fish rotting in the tank?

:) thanks natalie.
my mum was here so they wernt rotting, they died sometime after midnight and my mum found them at 6am, the fish that died were 2 fronts a parrot and a 2 lobsters.
the fish shop tested everything, so dont no parameters.

Most likely you will not find the answer to your question since you have no idea what the water parameters are or what the LFS actually tested for. I would get yourself a good test kit, learn to use it, and test your tank so you will know whats going on with it.

at least you didnt loose all your fish!
i had a similar problem when i came back froma week long holiday last year
my marine set up was DESTROYED.
as far as i can make out, the moray got hungry, tried to eat the panda puffer, which released its toxins and wiped out the rabbitfish, trigger and polleni grouper.
so i had a tank full of this orange gunk that stank to high hell and lots of rotting carcases.
i didnt get back into fish keeping for about 6 months after that disaster:|

well i got a testing kit but not a really expensive one, so i might have to ask for one as a xmas present as i cant afford £145, i dont get that in a month lol.:(
but just going to stick with whats left and make sure they are ok.:D

NOOOO!!!
omg, i dont feel like i have anything to complain about now!
thats awful mate! i feel like not goin back in to it now, really worried im a failure i spose lol.
my mum wants marine, but there is no way im getting myself in to that, told her she can look after them herself! lol

oh i would consider going marine again, its just the woman who was meant to feed them skipped a day or two, and the eel tried to eat everything. it was a great set up though.

seriously your not a failure, this kind of thing can happen to anyone, its not like it was your fault, you wasnt there. i would do a really good waterchange on it though-

and as i found out with the marines, when some of your stock dies, it opens up the door to new stocking possibilities

thats what iv been think...hhhmmm what can i have next lol, but il just wait and see with the plecs, guna talk my mum into buying me a bigger tank though first.
thanks for the words of encouragement.
guna empty the tank completely just to make sure then cycle and put them back in.
