My widebar at 6-7" used to hang out and the top corner of the tank and rarely move out of the vacinity. Almost as if was scared of all my other tankmates. I've been told if i added some more dats to the tank he would come out. Well i just did, sure enough he came out. He came out attacking/chasing all the new NGTs. Then he proceeded to attempt to harass the aro and my wild discus and whatever seems to be in his way.

My new NGT's are 5". What also sucks is my discus are also chasing my new NGTs. Could it just be initiation to the new tank or does anyone forsee and thing happening?

Also i like to add that my widebar hasn't been eating since i got him about 2 weeks ago. I'm trying to get him of prepared food just like what everyone else is eating in the tank. I say no to feeders so its starve and die or eat what i give them.

Hey Eric, nice to see you posting here!!!

How long have you had the mix? Perhaps the tank simply needs time to establish the pecking order?

Regarding the feedings, have you at tried soaking in garlic yet?

the mix started today. I recieved the NGTs today. I went home and dumped them in the tank and did a 15-20min observation on them.

What does shrimp soaked in garlic do? I though that method was to get rid of internal parasites.

Yeah bro what does the shrimp in garlic do?

Mmmm discus with NGT one of them are not happy at all

a tiger com will never be a carm place when they get to 6-7inch

if you have more than 1 NGT they will fight with each other all the time unless you have 5 or more NGT

discus and NGT is just all wrong they like totaly diffrent water condition

its quite normal to get some chasing and aggressive behavior when adding new datnoids.
as an example of this when i added my new silver to the mix yesterday they silver and the thin bar spent a few hours sorting whos the top dog between the 2 but there was no real damage.
hopefully it is the same for yours too, as for garlic it helps to induce a feeding response for some reason.

i know discus and ngt or with any pred is a bad mix but let me brief you a little about this guy.

Started out in a planted tank. The planted tank then became just fish with driftwood tank. During that time, it's tankmates where gachuas, mbu puffer. Later i sold those and got a gulper cat. Then sold the gulper and got a big fahaka. Gave the fahaka to my cousin and got a huge gator snapper. Had that and then sold it and now have a mix pred tank. The discus was the orginal fish i had from the time of the planted tank. So as you can see, its quite the hardy fish. It can survive in all kinds of water condition and survive past preds that would demolish it in one bite.

By the way, its a wild discus. I only collect wild discus, i dont like the commercial bred ones, not my likings. I do believe wild discus are hardier once they are stablized. I've had a few and like the one i have right now, they are almost bullet proof.

Thanks for letting me know i need more than 2 ngts.... for now i'll let them be, i'll continue to observe their behavior. In total i have 2 ngt and 1 widebar...

Any other suggestions as to calming the agression if its to continue?

thanks bro! i think i'll give that a try, i just need to find a place that sells it now.
