Don't know what the problem is but I have this wierd growth in my tank on the front of the glass, it's like little green speckles that I can't rub off at all not even with my hands, does anyone know what this is?
Even though on the surface glass appears smooth, it can have many imperfections, and these are perfect spots for algae to get a foothold. I try to use a razor blade regularly, but even a blade can't get into some places.
To the eye, the tank below appears relatively smooth, but if I use a camera, it is immediately apparent, there are scratches every where colonized by algae.
Have you tried a new razor blade? I know exactly what you are talking about (although I don't remember the name). I used to use a new razor blade to remove it. It would take some time, but it eventually came off.

I have the same problem in my stream tank, I have a clean up crew of snails in all my tanks, but in that tank the darters eat every single snail. I have the same algae as what you described but i Just live with it, it doesnt bother me. As said above, either scrape it with a blade or get some stock thatll clean it up for ya.
