Hey guys,

I just wanted to run a few things by you, maybe you can explain what is going on here. My 55 gallon native tank has these wispy hair like algae growing on my drift wood and on some other random things in the tank. They are white in color and look like hair, or streched cotton just flowing with the water current. The largest one is about 2 inches long. I suppose it isnt hurting anything, but its rather annoying. Im sure it occurs in nature and it is what it is. Can anyone tell me what this is and if there is anything I can do about it?

Also, I have noticed a few patches of algae on my back glass. its the same whiteish color. I also noticed that on my fluval hose end piece that is white in color I have like reddish growth on that.

Any ideas what is going on here. I do have plants in the tank along with a pair of darters for now if that matters. Are there any fish I can put in there to take care of stuff like this?

Let me know your thoughts...

Thank You,

Justin

i get all kinds of algae on my driftwood, the green and white stuff i usually just leave to grow but the darker colours that grow on the wood i clean off every now and again. are you fertilizing? if you dont want the algae around just keep your lights on less everyday

So I can just try cleaning it off and leaving the light on less? I dont fertilize.
