My fish have came down with a wierd disease. Its a white fungus type stuff that gets on their body. They don't have cuts or lacerations before hand so it can't be secondary infection. Its spreading rapidly over the last two days. My tank houses cichlids, loaches, stingrays and bichirs. The only fish that have this are the cichlids. They're fins kindve look like they have fin rot but its also on the body. My params are 80F 0ppm ammonia 0ppm nitrite 10-15 nitrate. I can't figure out what this is by any pictures. I've done a water change, raised the temp, and added salt. One fish has already died.

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Cookie,

I treated a similar problem with a friends Comet GF, I treated with Primafix and then Melafix for healing. added salt, but not heat other than bringing them in from outside...

Get said infected fish out of the tank and get them on their own for 2 main reasons...

1-you can medicate as needed without medicating the fish thataren't sick.
2-to stop any further infection of non sick tankmates.

I have a spare 15 gallon tote for this, cheap and easy with a sponge filter...Oh, water changes, keep the water CLEAN, I was changing 50% with my sick comets...

my $.02

Do you have little tuffs of white on the mouth?

Not really, no.

Is the white fungus attached to the body? It's not releasing as the swim like a slime coat problem? How long have the said fish been in the tank?

They have been in that tank for about a month. That particular tank has been up for over a year tho. Its fully cycled.
